With Ajax Cape Town not in action in the Absa Premiership this midweek, we take a closer look at what the results on Tuesday and Wednesday could mean for the Urban Warriors’ standing on the log.
First up, Tuesday’s match between Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns could see the gap between Ajax and the top eight extended.
The Chilli Boys are currently placed ninth on 19 points (just one point ahead of 11th placed Ajax) and a draw or victory for them would see a move to eighth place and the gap from Stanley Menzo’s side to the top eight bracket would either remain two points (if Chippa draw) or become four points (if Chippa win).
On Wednesday, the Urban Warriors will be keeping an eye on the clash between Baroka and Platinum Stars in the Limpopo province: a win for Dikwena would see them join Ajax on 18 points and move ahead of the Cape side on goal difference.
Ajax will also be interested in Orlando Pirates’ fortunes in their clash against Bidvest Wits in Soweto: the Buccaneers are currently just one point and one position ahead of the Urban Warriors – albeit having played two matches fewer.
Ajax will return to Absa Premiership action on Saturday when they face Polokwane City away from home.
