Ajax Cape Town will not be in Absa Premiership action until the weekend, but they will still be keeping a close eye on the midweek matches and what it means for their place on the log.
The clash between Platinum Stars and Mamelodi Sndowns on Tuesday gives the former the chance to leapfrog three places into 11th and push Ajax down to 12th – but only if they defeat the Brazilians.
Given that Pitso Mosimane’s team are newly crowned CAF Super Cup champions while Dikwena have drawn their last four matches in succession, it’s fair to label the Brazilians as favourites. However, anything is possible in the competitive environment of the PSL.
Wednesday sees SuperSport United host Maritzburg United in Tshwane, while Bidvest Wits will welcome bottom-of-the-log Baroka FC to Johannesburg.
Neither clash will affect Ajax’s position on the log regardless of the results, but a surprise win for Bakgaga against the Clever Boys would put the Urban Warriors that little bit closer to the relegation zone.
Ajax are currently on 19 points, five clear of the mark of 14 points held by second-from-bottom Highlands Park. However, the start of the red zone would rise to 16 points if Baroka were to win in Johannesburg.
