Urban Warriors suffer early Bayhill exit

Ajax Cape Town suffered an early exit from the 2017 Bayhill Premier Cup, losing in the Round of 16 to fellow Western Cape outfit, PPG Langa.

Having qualified for the knockout stages as Group C winners, the Urban Warriors were expected to beat their rivals, but were made to rue several missed chances as the game ended 0-0 after extra-time.

Vladislav Heric’ men showing great determination – having finished the game with 10-men following Sirgio Kammies sending off. But, they were unable come up trumps in the ensuing penalty shoot-out, losing 3-1 from the spot.

Earlier, Ajax Cape Town had defeated Grassy Park 1-0 to leapfrog Virginia Academy to top the log standings. Juanito Manuel with the only goal of the game.

In all, a disappointing outing for Ajax Cape Town at Erica Park with last year’s runners-up having headed into the competition with high expectations.

Defending champions SuperSport United will takcle Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in Monday afternoon’s final in Belhar. Kick-off is at 14h30.
