Stanley Menzo’s troops ended their training camp in Gauteng with a 2-2 stalemate against National First Division (NFD) side University of Pretoria, at Tuks Stadium on Friday.
Prince Nxumalo with a brace for Ajax Cape Town as the Urban Warriors extended their unbeaten run in pre-season.
Following successive wins over Bidvest Wits, Cape Town All Stars, SuperSport United and Maritzburg United, Menzo’s side were on course to make it five out of five, but the men from South Africa’s capital scored twice in quick succession to salvage a draw.
In all, the 5-day training camp proved very fruitful for Menzo – with victories over Matsatsantsa and the Team of Choice in Atteridgeville and Dobsonville respectively, having injected valuable confidence into the squad as we continue to build towards the start of the new season.
The three games in Gauteng also gave the former Dutch international and his technical team valuable insight into those who currently find themselves on trial at the club, with the likes of Ejike Uzoenyi, Morne Nel, Jairo Da Silva, Kulegani Madondo and Frédéric Nsabiyumva all hopeful of landing a contract with the Cape club.
The Urban Warriors will return to the Mother City on Friday evening, with preparations for the 2017-18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season to continue at our Ikamva base in Parow.
We have a scheduled friendly against Stellenbosch FC next month with the date and time to be announced in due course.
