Ajax Cape Town will be without captain Travis Graham for the upcoming Absa Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs, set to take place at Athlone Stadium this Saturday evening. Kick-off is at 20h15 CAT.

The Urban Warriors skipper has accumulated a total of four yellow cards and will, as a result, be suspended for the much-anticipated match against the high-flying Amakhosi.

Head coach Stanley Menzo further commented that Grant Margeman will also be unavailable for selection as he is currently away on national duty with the South Africa U20 national team.

“One suspension: Travis Graham,” said Menzo. “Not very smart, when you are on three yellow cards to get a yellow card for ‘talking’ [against Polokwane City]. It is disappointing.

“More disappointing is the fact that we will also be without midfielder Grant Margeman because he is on duty with the national team, it is a really big loss. As far as I know there are no other injuries.

Moreover, Menzo explained why Ndiviwe Mdabuka started the 1-1 draw against Rise and Shine on the bench, with ‘Diva’ also one booking away from picking up a suspension. As is the case with Mark Mayambela, Rivaldo Coetzee and Lawrence Lartey.

“The choice to leave ‘Diva’ on the bench last weekend was double-edged; it was not that he was injured, he could play [if need be], but we thought we could rest him – we had Grant still and ‘Diva’ was on three yellow cards as well so was a good call to start him on the bench and not run the risk of him also missing the match,” Menzo added.

The former Dutch international further stated that there are several ways to combat Graham and Margeman’s absence as the Urban Warriors eye all three points in Athlone.

“Erwin Isaacs can play as a ‘double six’, Roscoe Pietersen can play as a ‘double six’, we can push back Rodrick Kabwe as a ‘double six’,” Menzo continued. “There are options, but the question is what is the requirement of a ‘double six’ when playing against a top team? I feel the first requirement is to defend.

“The block as to be there in front of your defence – two midfielders – so we have to decide who is best to fill this void, who has the quality and mental quality to keep that space tight and closed for Kaizer Chiefs because I know in that area they are very dangerous,” he concluded.

The Glamour Boys will be without defender Lorenzo Gordinho as he is also serving a one-match suspension.
