Ajax Cape Town will continue their 2016/17 Absa Premiership campaign with an away clash against SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium this evening.
These teams have been regular combatants since Ajax’s formation in 1999, meeting in a total of 35 league matches.
Overall, United have a slight edge over the Urban Warriors: the Pretoria-based team has claimed 14 wins (and scored 37 goals) compared to Ajax’s 12 (34 goals), while nine matches have been drawn.
This is further reflected in Matsatsantsa’s home record against the Cape team: eight wins compared to six losses in 17 turns as host down the years.
SuperSport also won the last league meeting of these teams, triumphing 2-0 at the Cape Town Stadium in October last year.
However, Ajax can take great heart from the fact that five of the last seven league matches between these teams have been won by the away side.
This includes three successive wins in Pretoria for the Urban Warriors: 2-1 in both 2013/14 and 2014/15 and 3-1 last season, when goals from Tashreeq Morris, Toriq Losper and Prince Nxumalo took Ajax to victory.
