Ajax Cape Town head coach Stanley Menzo has dismissed any suggestions that his troops will be taking KwaDukuza United lightly, with the Absa Premiership side eager to avoid a Nedbank Cup upset.
The Urban Warriors travel to Durban on Friday afternoon, ahead of their Round of 32 clash at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15h00.
With an important clash against Free State Stars on the horizon, Menzo is hoping the match on the East Coast of South Africa will serve as a timely confidence booster.
“I know that all over the world, that teams use players that don’t play as often in the cup games,” Menzo said. “When you have a big squad, yes you can do it, if you don’t have injuries you can do it. But for us it is very important that we win this match because it can give us a boost.
“A win is important, so we don’t find ourselves in a negative spiral and losing against a team you are not supposed to lose against.
“We take the match very serious, I hate losing, so we take the game very seriously.
Menzo continued: “But, the week after we have an important game, yes I also want to see a few players that I haven’t seen as much up to now and they can show me that coach: ‘If you need me I am there’.
“We will approach the opponent with big respect, it has to be like that even if they are playing in a lower league because they can hurt you a lot, not only in the upcoming game, but also for future fixtures.
“So yes, we take the game very seriously, but we keep an eye on next week’s game as well,” Menzo concluded.
