Having joined the club as a 9-year-old, Sameehg Doutie will always have Ajax Cape Town red running through his veins, and having completed yet another successful season in India, the Urban Warriors youth product has returned home to Ikamva.
Doutie has signed a contract with the club till the end of the season, committing his efforts to helping the side to a favourable finish on the 2016-17 Absa Premiership log standings.
The 27-year-old broke into the Ajax Cape Town first team in 2007, and was part of the squad that came agonizingly close to lifting the league title four years later.
Following spells with South African rivals Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits – Doutie headed abroad; signing for Indian Super League (ISL) side Atlético de Kolkata in 2015.
Doutie has achieved great success in India, and following an eye-catching first season on the subcontinent – which conjured 6 assists and 3 goals – he would play a pivotal role in the club lifting their second title in three years.
In 26 appearances during the 2016 campaign, Doutie assisted an astonishing 10 goals – scoring a further 5 as the club eventually beat Kerala Blasters 4-3 on penalties to claim the title.
Ajax Cape Town CEO Ari Efstathiou has welcomed Doutie back with open arms, with the talented winger set to take the Mother City by storm once more.
“Sameehg was brought up at the club since the age of 9 so he is an Ajax academy graduate, he left the club at the age of 21 to pursue his career with Pirates, he went to SuperSport and Wits – he has had two fantastic seasons in the Indian Super League.
“He has committed himself to the club to assist us for the next five months, unfortunately it is going to be a short term contract, you never know what happens after that – maybe he enjoys it and he stays – but his dream is to go and play in Europe and we don’t want to hinder his plans.
“It is just another attacking player who joins the club; we now have Rodrick Kabwe, Aubrey Funga and Sameehg,” Efstathiou concluded.
Doutie could complete his Ajax comeback against his former employers, Bidvest Wits, when the Urban Warriors lock horns with the Clever Boys in an Absa Premiership clash on the 7th of February.
