Roger Links

Ajax Cape Town is pleased to announce the appointment of Roger Links as the second assistant coach of the Ajax PSL team.

Roger coached the Ajax U19 team for the last two years. During his stint as the U19 Ajax coach his team won the League and Knock-Out in the Cape Town Tygerberg Football Association and the Metropolitan Premier Cup in 2008.

He has a rich soccer history - he is the son of the local soccer legend Challa Links and he is a Western Cape 2010 World Cup Ambassador.
Roger started his football career at Yorkshire Football Club at the Cape District Football Association, Proteas cricketer Hershelle Gibbs also played his football at the club.

Links then moved to Battswood Football Club (amateur) where he amassed a number of titles playing alongside the likes of Vincent Barnes (the assistant South African cricket coach), Cliffie Davids, Ian Southgate and Adeeb Abrahams (a 2010 World Cup Ambassador). Top of the list was the Western Province Football Board Virginia League Championship that Battswood won from 1984-1987. Links was also part of the squad that won the Federation National Club Championships in 1985, 1987 and 1988.

Battswood turned professional in the South African soccer Federation and the team made an immediate impact. Roger won 1989 league Championship medal and the New Republic Bank Knockout trophy with Battswood in the Federation. In 1989 he was named the Battswood Player of the Year.

He moved from Battswood to Cape Town Spurs and the honours continued to pour in. Links was named the Cape Town Spurs Player of the Year in 1989 and in 1991, the Western Cape NSL Player of the Year in 1990 and the NSL Rookie of the Year in 1991.

Roger also played for Hellenic and Santos and represented Bafana Bafana 12 times.
