We ready for our first game




The game against Manchester United has had a big impact on pre-season preparation of Ajax Cape Town.
The Urban Warriors had just returned from their pre-season training camp before the MTN Football Invitational and judging from their performances during pre-season games, the team is more than ready to take on their PSL opposition.
50 000 local supporters packed the Cape Town Stadium to watch Ajax Cape Town take on the “Red Devils” in the “MTN Football Invitational”. The Urban Warriors stunned the fanatical United supporters by going ahead four minutes from time only to surrender their lead late in the game.
Both teams came into the game early into their pre-season yet they were able to give the fans a game to remember for a long time.
Stekelenburg said, “The Man United game came in the middle of our preseason however it gave us a good opportunity to measure ourselves against a top team.
We had to be ready for the game for Manchester United game, it was also their second game but we got what we wanted from the game. We saw areas that we needed to work on and it gave us an opportunity to watch a few of our trialist in a match situation.
It was also important for that the fans enjoyed the game and judging by their reaction to our performance I am sure they did. The boys were outstanding on the day and they made us proud.
Since then we have worked on certain areas of our game and we looking at new combinations in various areas of the field.
We will play a number of practice games against local opposition before the start the new season because I feel its important that every player gets enough game time.
All our players are ready and fit and we will continue to build-on our preparations ahead of the Supersport game. We have no major injuries and the team looks quite fit and we are ready to play our first game. ”
