Urban Kids win Ikamva Cup
The inaugural U11 Ikamva Cup played out to an exciting finish at Ikamva on Saturday afternoon.
The Urban Kids pulled off an exciting upset victory over the more fancied Urban Warriors in the final of the Ikamva Cup.
The Ikamva Cup is a tournament for the U11 age group that evolved from Ajax Cape Town’s first touch program as it progressed in search for the next generation of Young Warriors. Each year the scouting program at Ajax Cape Town unearths future football stars at a young age through their scouting network and these players are invited to join the Ajax Cape Town Youth Academy.
On Saturday eight teams contested the Ikamva Cup; - Oasis FC, Gugulethu LFA, Sepamla Spurs, Hout Bay FC, Lingelethu LFA, the Urban Kids, Urban Stars and Urban Warriors.
The games started at 10h00 and already Ikamva was packed with families and friends of the participating teams. With a place at the Ajax Cape Town Youth Academy at stake the youngsters gave 110% to ensure they get noticed.
After the first round of games the Urban Warriors topped the log standings with three wins in three games, and then it was time for the top four to battle for the title in the semi-finals.
The Urban Warriors played Lingelethu LFA and Gugulethu LFA played the Urban Kids while the remaining teams contested the 5th to 8th positions.
The Urban Warriors continued their good form by beating Lingelethu LFA 1-0 while the Urban Kids beat Gugulethu LFA by the same score in the other semi-final.
Gugulethu LFA finished in third place after they beat Lingelethu LFA 3-0, in a podium place play-off.
The scene was set for an exciting final between the Urban Warriors and the Urban Kids.
The Urban Kids emerged victorious after an exciting final. They inflicted the first defeat of the tournament against the Urban Warriors winning 4-2.
The “Kids” coach and current Ajax pro player, Brett Evans put one over his mentor Coach Grompie using the tactics employed by Foppe de Haan and Maarten Stekelenburg in the final.

This is the reason why I am supporting Ajax CT due to the investment in our youth. If only more sponsors can come on board and the fans need to support these type of tournaments as this is the foundation phase to unearth more gems. We are talling about safer communities but we are not willing to commit ourselves for this cause.
