Ajax fight back to draw

Ajax Cape Town secured their place in the top eight when they drew 1-1 with Black Aces in the blistering heat of Wellington on Saturday afternoon.
The Urban Warriors almost took an early lead when Diyo Sibisi found space in the penalty area but his shot was saved by the Aces keeper. Ajax continued to attack however they could not penetrate the Aces defence.
The first goal of the game came in the 32nd minute when the match official adjudged Clayton Daniels to have brought down Mpho Maleka in the penalty area. Despite the protests of the Ajax players, Thomrick October stepped up and scored for Aces.
The Ajax coach was sent off after the fourth official reported him to the referee Buyile Gqubule.
However minutes later Lance Davids evened the score when his free-kick smashed through the wall into the bottom corner of the net.
The players started to feel the impact of the heat as the pace of the game slowed however Aces searched for the winning goal to assure their place in the PSL and Setjaba Mmuso of Aces almost found the target but Hans Vonk in the Ajax goal pulled off a great save.
Ajax finished the league campaign in 7th place equal on points with Swallows and Bloemfontein Celtic with goal difference the deciding factor.
Ajax Cape Town will now focus on defending their Telkom Knockout when they face Moroka Swallows on Sunday.
Foppe de Haan the Ajax coach said, “Although we did not get the win, I am happy with the players’ effort. Now we will shift our focus to the Telkom Knockout. The longer we play the better it is for my players and for next season.
We will want to play until the very last day of the season.”
