Keeper Guru coaches locals

Ikamva welcomed Maarten Arts as well as a number of local top goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches on Sunday.

Also in attendance were the Ajax goalkeepers Hans Vonk, Andre Petim and Carl Bauerrichter who assisted Maarten with the practical aspect of the course.

Before the coaches made their way onto the field they were lectured on the theory of goalkeeping by the world renowned goalkeeping guru Maarten Arts.

Amongst those attending were Brian van der Heever and Nigel Dixon, the goalkeeping coaches of Ajax Cape Town and Santos respectively.

More than twenty local coaches attended the course to enhance their knowledge of the specialist football position.

Maarten holds the highest Dutch coaching license (UEFA-A) and is a licensed Sports-Teacher who worked as the goalkeeping-Coach for FC Utrecht (for the last 11 seasons) at NEC; Fortuna Sittard and NAC football clubs.

He also works as a teacher for GK-Coaches-courses for the Austrian and German Football Association and has an exclusive contract with the Mexican Football Association.

Maarten has his own Uhlsport-Pro Goal-goalkeeping camps all over the world in countries like Hong Kong; Norway; Germany; U.S.A.

In these camps he worked with among others Toni Schumacher; Hans van Breukelen; Oliver Kahn, and Jens Lehmann.

A high percentage of Dutch keepers under Maarten’s guidance represented their national team, a testament to his ability and coaching philosophy.
