Ajax lose to Downs

Ajax Cape Town lost to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon. A goal by Lebohang Mokoena’s in the 51st minute proved to be key in this exciting encounter that kept the fans enthralled throughout the 90 minutes.
The decisive moment of the game came in the 27th minute of the game when Clayton Daniels was sent off for a high tackle, forcing the Urban Warriors to play with 10 men. Ajax suffered another blow in the first half when Derek Decamps was stretchered-off after he suffered a hamstring injury.
Despite playing most of the game with 10 men Ajax Cape held their own with both sides keeping possession for periods of time. There was action on both ends of the field , for Ajax Sibisi hit the side netting with an acute-angled shot and Sundowns appealed for a penalty when Htlashwayo tackled Pelembe, but their appeal fell on deaf ears as the match official waved play on.
Sundowns started the second half with more purpose as the took the game to Ajax. Vonk made a great save off a Nyandoro header but the Ajax keeper could little when Mokoena slipped the ball into the net to give Sundowns the lead.
Ajax fought back strongly when Granwald Scott forced Baloyi to make a save at his near post, then Moriri almost double the Sundowns lead but Vonk was alert and made a crucial save to keep Ajax in the game.
Ajax threw everything into their attack and the inclusion of substitute, Aboubacar Fofana rattled the Sundowns defence forcing them to concede late free-kicks just outside their penalty area.
It was from one of these free-kicks that George Maluleke floated the ball just wide of the far upright to the dismay of the Ajax fans.
This result sees Ajax Cape Town stay in sixth position ahead of their clash with Moroka Swallows on Wednesday evening at the Olympia Stadium.

Hard luck guys, but when will the coach see that the Paulse & Sibisi combination does not work. Diphetogo & Sameegh should not be on the bench.
