We are ready - Foppe

Ajax Cape Town plays Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, 07 February 2010 at the Athlone Stadium. The game starts at 15h30 for this all ticket affair. Tickets will be available at Computicket outlets across the Western Cape.

By all indications this is a crucial game for both teams, for Ajax Cape Town a win will ensure that the Urban Warriors stay on track for a top five finish, for Sundowns a win will keep them in contention for the PSL title so both teams have it all to play for.

Foppe de Haan the Ajax coach said, “Earlier this week goals by Lance Davids and Thulani Serero secured Ajax a morale boosting win against Platinum Stars.

Unfortunately Lance is suspended for this game after he received a yellow card (his third) during the Stars game and Brett Evans is out because of a long term injury. Brett’s injury was worse than it was initially thought to be and he will be out for the rest of the season.

We thought that it would be better for Evans to heal slowly as a preventative measure against a relapse.

The return of Granwald Scott is welcomed as he is able to play a number of positions in our offensive game-plan. Clifford Ngobeni can also play in the central midfield role and so can Dipsy Selolwane and Nhlanhla Shabalala. So we have more than ample cover for Lance.

Finishing within the top five is our target and with five games remaining we have to fight for every point available.

The players trained hard during the break and I know that they are ready for this game,” concluded de Haan.

Ajax and Sundowns have met 21 times in the league since 1999/2000. The Urban Warriors won eight games to the Brazilians’ six, while seven matches have ended in a drawn result.

Local fans can expect an exciting game of attacking football as each team go in search for maximum points.

I don't like the "kick and charge" football. Possession of the ball and let the opposition do the running. Pass only to unmarked players; this may prevent heavy tackles and injuries. And try to keep Nathan Paulse.
