Hans Vonk retracts statement
Earlier this week Hans Vonk was interviewed by a local radio station about the game at the Athlone Stadium against Platinum Stars.
During the interview Hans was asked to compare the pitch at the Cape Town Stadium to that of the Athlone Stadium. His response was said to have reflected negatively on the state of the Athlone pitch yet that was never the Ajax captain’s intention.
Hans Vonk and Ajax Cape Town would like to apologise to the City of Cape Town and the staff of the Athlone Stadium about the misunderstanding created by his response and Hans would like to retract the statement unreservedly.
“We are happy to play at our home ground, the Athlone Stadium,” said Hans Vonk.
Athlone stadiums pitch doesnt come close to the Cape Town's Stadiums pitch. I had seats in row 1 for the soccer festival, and it was perfect. With the Ajax/Stars game the other night, there were visible patches of brown and even in some areas bumpy. I do concede that the new revamped Athlone stadium is fantastic, but one cannot compare the amount of money pumped into the CT Stadium to that of Athlone.
