Ajax Cape Town are approaching the final stages of their 2016/17 season and the strike duo Nathan Paulse and Prince Nxumalo are leading the race to be the club’s top goal scorer.

The 34-year-old Paulse has netted five times (all in the Absa Premiership) so far this term. He scored in each of the club’s opening three matches of the season and has chipped in with a further two since, his most recent arriving in a 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs in February.

Running level with the lanky veteran on five goals is Prince Nxumalo (last season’s top scorer with 13 strikes), who has netted four times in the league and once in the Nedbank Cup.

Strikers cannot do all the scoring work, which is why Ajax will be pleased that Mark Mayamblea has netted three times, while a further four midfielders – Grant Margeman, Ndiviwe Mdabuka, Thabo Mosadi and Bantu Mzwakali – have each contributed two goals.

In addition, defender Eric Chipeta, foreign recruits Aubrey Funga and Rodrick Kabwe, as well as youngster Neo Makua have scored once each, while one own-goal in the club’s favour arrived in their 3-2 win over Platinum Stars back in November.
