Head of medical at Ajax Cape Town, Jantho Greyling, has provided us with an update on how the players are doing, who is out injured and who will be returning to action shortly with the resumption of the 2016-17 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season under a week away:
Update on Toriq Losper and Ziyaad Eksteen:
There is not much new from the injury side of things, we are lucky to be blessed with an almost clean bill of health, the only player still recovering from a long-term injury is Toriq Losper; he is coming along very nicely and should be starting to do some linear running in the next two weeks which is a great sign.
He is off his crutches, out of his brace so things are getting along well. In two weeks time he will start running.
The only other injury we have is Ziyaad Eksteen, he injured himself in training, he picked up Grade-2 ligament tear of his ankle; unfortunately while rolling his ankle over the ball. He will be out for approximately 6-8 weeks, depending on recovery and so on. Those are the two main injury worries, nothing else to report really.
On Erick Chipeta:
Eric is 100 per cent fine, the specialist is happy with the healing of his finger, he is fully recovered. There are no issues there whatsoever, he is back in training and fit to play.
On the fitness and progress of new signings Rheece Evans, Rodrick Kabwe, Aubrey Funga and Sameehg Doutie:
On the physical and conditioning side I think Rodrick and Aubrey weren’t used to the intensity of our training so we had to take it a bit easier for the first two weeks or so, so that they get used to the load because you could see they were struggling slightly in the beginning. Fitness-wise they are there, it is not a train-smash, but again it took some time to adapt.
Sameehg on the other hand, he is flying and he is really fit because he only had a small break following the Indian Super League (ISL), before coming to us. He is really looking very good and he is 100 per cent fit. I am really happy with Sameehg’s condition at the moment.
Rheece obviously has played a little bit of MultiChoiceDiski Challenge football for Mamelodi Sundowns this season so – game time was a little bit of an issue for us, but his fitness levels are quite good, he did a lot on his own in the off-season as well. He played a few friendlies and he is looking good.
Out of all of them; none of them are behind the pack at the moment from a fitness point of few.
