Ajax Cape Town centre-back Mario Booysen feels right at home, following his return to the club.

The 29-year-old re-joined the Urban Warriors on transfer deadline day last month, 10 years after graduating from the club’s Youth Academy.

Following spells at Absa Premiership rivals SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and Mamelodi Sundowns, Booysen is back in the Mother City – back where it all started.

“For me it was an easy decision to come back home. I have a lot of friends here and I know the Ajax Cape Town way of playing. I’m part of the family,” said Booysen.

“The move came at a good time, I missed pre-season with the boys, but I was active and on national duty so that made things easier – in terms of fitness.

“I am a Cape Town boy, it has been good thus far. Yes, it was good to keep a clean sheet in our last game, we needed the three points, but there is still a lot of room for improvement,” he added.

The Urban Warriors got their campaign up and running with a 2-0 win over Polokwane City last weekend, and now face a tough trip to Baroka FC before the much anticipated Cape Town Derby on the 30th of September.

“One game at a time. The Derby is next week, three points is three points and our focus for now is on Baroka. We want maximum points this weekend to build on our momentum heading into the Derby,” the towering defender concluded.
