Ajax Cape Town captain Travis Graham has pointed out the importance of the club’s upcoming fixture against Maritzburg United.
The Urban Warriors take on the Team of Choice in an Absa Premiership fixture on Saturday evening.
Lingering in the bottom half of the table, both teams will be desperate to return to winning ways.
“We know the importance of this upcoming game, we as a team know it s important to get all three points, as you can see on the log, if we get all three points we can really move up the log standings – the guys know the importance of Saturday’s match,” said Graham.
“We want to end as high as possible, I think you can see we are abiding to the coach’s philosophy and things are coming together nicely. Yes, we could have had a few better results, but with the positive mood in the camp I think we can achieve better things.
Influential midfielder Grant Margeman will miss the clash, with the 18-year-old serving a two-match suspension following his sending off in the 2-2 draw vs Free State Stars.
Graham admits that Margeman’s absence will serve as a big loss, but the skipper is confident Ndiviwe Mdabuka and himself will be able to fill the holding role to great effect.
“It is a big loss for Grant not to be there, he is on a high in his early career, obviously doing well with the national [U20] team – scoring goals for us and his confidence is very high,” Graham continued.
“But, we are a team and anyone who is required to fill in and do the job needs to be there. If ‘Diva’ is chosen I think he will do the job, he is hungry to play – that applies for the whole team, that is a good thing, good healthy competition.
“When Grant comes back he will have to fight for his place again so that is what the coach wants I think, for me as well – that is what we want,” he concluded.
