We take a closer look at Ajax Cape Town’s away form in the Absa Premiership this season, which has seen the Urban Warriors pick up 10 points from a possible 33.

Ajax’s poor start to the season meant they failed to win any of their first nine league matches, but they broke the drought with a 3-2 away win over Platinum Stars in November.

It was the first of just two wins on the road for Stanley Menzo’s side, with the other an impressive 3-0 destruction of Bloemfontein Celtic in mid-December.

Ajax’s up-and-down form on the road has mirrored their roller coaster season: both their best result of the campaign (the 3-0 win over Celtic) and their heaviest defeat (0-5 at the hands of Bidvest Wits) arrived in successive away league matches.

The Cape Town side have some tough away matches remaining in the league season: Golden Arrows – April 15; Mamelodi Sundowns – April 25; Chippa United – May 6; and Orlando Pirates – May 17.

Overall, Ajax have recorded two wins, four draws and five defeats from 11 matches on the road this season, with 11 goals for and 17 against.

This is not the worst away record in the Absa Premiership this season, with Highlands Park, Free State Stars and Chippa United (all six points from 11 matches) all enjoying less success on their travels.
