Ajax Cape Town have been handed a timely boost with news that Aubrey Funga will be available for selection for this weekend’s Absa Premiership clash against Polokwane City.
The 26-year-old, who joined the Urban Warriors from Zambian club side Zanaco FC last month, looks set to make his debut in the Limpopo province having received his work permit.
Head coach Stanley Menzo has been impressed by how Fung has performed in training this week, and hinted that he will be part of the squad that jets off to Lanseria Airport on Friday afternoon.
“Yes the work permit has been sorted and he will be in the squad, I think it was a relief for him that his papers were sorted because this week he was fresh, it was like a release and he trained very well,” Menzo said when asked about Funga.
“Let’s see what he can do for us, there is a very good chance he will be in the squad for this weekend’s match.”
Funga commented on his arrival at Ikamva last month:
“This is a good place, a good thing to have on my CV and the perfect stepping stone for great things to follow because there are great players here, that have played here [at Ajax Cape Town], which serves as great motivation to take my football to the highest level,” Funga told ajaxct.co.za
The Urban Warriors will leave Cape Town International Airport at 13h45 before catching a bus to Polokwane from Lanseria Airport. Ajax will return to the Mother City on Sunday; departing OR Tambo International Airport at 11h20.
Kick-off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday 18 February, is scheduled for 15h30.
