Having received several messages from concerned fellow Capetonians regarding Ajax Cape Town’s “green” sports fields, we would like to clear the air.
Ajax Cape Town would like to make it clear, to all those that are rightfully worried that the club are not following the strict fresh water restrictions put in place amid the on-going water crisis, that we DO NOT water our fields with fresh water.
We would like to point out that we use treated/grey/sewage water to water our fields, piped in from the Athlone water processing plant which flows to a specially made dam between Ikamva and the Parow golf club.
The water is ONLY used for the watering of our fields – the water is not suitable for drinking/cooking purposes. It is suitable, though, for irrigation purposes.
NO FRESH WATER is used to water the fields. We at Ajax Cape Town are doing our utmost to do our bit in saving fresh water for our community and the Cape Peninsula.
Moreover, we have encouraged all our players: youth and First Team to take shorter showers following practice sessions and matches in an attempt to save as much water as possible during this period.
