We look back at how Ajax Cape Town performed in the month of February 2017, with Stanley Menzo’s side playing four Absa Premiership matches.
Following a lengthy break for the festive season and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, Ajax returned to action with a league match away to Bidvest Wits on February 7.
Sadly it was a game to forget for the Cape Town side, who suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Gavin Hunt’s title-chasing team.
Just four days later the Urban Warriors welcomed local rivals Cape Town City for a crunch derby, but again it was a disappointing result for the men in red and white, with Eric Tinkler’s team running out 2-0 winners.
On February 18, Ajax went to the Limpopo province desperate to avoid a third straight defeat and managed to play out a 1-1 draw with high-flying Polokwane City. Grant Margeman put Menzo’s side into the lead, but they conceded an equaliser to Rodney Ramagalela.
Ajax’s work for February was wrapped up on the 25th when they hosted Kaizer Chiefs at the Athlone Stadium. In a thrilling encounter in front of a sell-out crowd, the Warriors claimed the lead through Nathan Paulse, but again conceded an equaliser, this time to Daniel Cardoso.
February’s work for Ajax saw a total of four league matches played, with two points gained. The Cape side scored two goals and conceded nine.
