Ajax Cape Town will continue their 2016/17 Absa Premiership campaign with a home clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the Athlone Stadium this evening.
These teams have been regular combatants since the Urban Warriors’ formation in 1999 and have met in 35 league matches.
Chiefs have tended to get the better of the Cape Town side, claiming 15 wins compared to nine for Ajax, while 11 matches have ended in draws.
The Soweto side has also dominated recent league meetings between the teams: their 2-0 win in October last year extended their unbeaten streak against Ajax in the Premiership to six matches.
Yet Stanley Menzo’s side should take solace from their strong home record against Chiefs: seven wins (compared to just four losses) from 17 turns as host.
More anything, Ajax need to break the stranglehold Chiefs’ defence has had on them in recent years: the Warriors have managed just two goals in their last seven league games against Chiefs.
