Ajax Cape Town’s Under-13’s suffered a disappointing early exit from the 2017 Strandfontein Tournament.
The youth tournament, hosted at Ikamva in Parow, is in its 18th year of existence with Jody February and Grant Margeman but some of the current First Team players to have made a name for themselves at the two-day tourney.
Following wins over Rock A Fellas (14-0) and Westridge (2-0), the Urban Warriors progressed into the knockout stages as group winners.
A tough assignment in Fish Hoek awaited the boys on Sunday morning, and after conceding an early goal, Ajax Cape Town were unable to bounce back as Patrick Weels’ men ultimately suffered a 3-1 defeat.
Nawaaz Salie pulled a goal back for the Urban Warriors late on, but it was too little too late as this years hosts bowed out of the competition at the quarterfinal stage.
The ‘Tournament ‘By The Sea’ was moved to Parow only for this years edition, due to the current water crises plaguing the Cape Town area.
