Ajax Cape Town were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday afternoon.

The Urban Warriors squandered several chances throughout the match, with Stanley Menzo’s men ultimately having to settle for a point as they move up to 10th place on the log standings. Rise and Shine remain sixth.

Rheece Evans was handed his first start in Ajax Cape Town colours with 18-year-old Grant Margeman also involved from the onset following duty with the Under-20 National Team in midweek.

Both repaid Menzo’s faith as early as the 15th minute with Evans picking out the teenage midfielder who finished with aplomb, 0-1.

Ajax Cape Town were well in control and conjured further chances through Rodrick Kabwe, Nathan Paulse and Thabo Mosadi soon after.

But, the Cape side were made to pay as Rodney Ramagalela hammered home against the run of play in the 39th minute of the match. Teams tied at 1-1 at the interval.

Jody February had to be at his best to deny Ramagalela from completing his brace as both teams pressed forward in search of the winner in the second stanza.

The Urban Warriors, though, finished the game the stronger of the two sides with Aubrey Funga – on debut – unlucky to see his shot straight into the grateful hands of George Chigova.

As a result, both teams’ remain without a win this year.
