The January transfer window for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) officially closed last night [31 January], with clubs all around South Africa’s top flight making changes ahead of the second half of the 2016-17 season.
Ajax Cape Town were no different in this regard, with the club bringing in four new players during this period, signing one on a pre-contract, and allowing three to depart from the first-team roster.
The three departures are Ali Abondo, Joaquim Lupeta (who were both released from their contracts with the Urban Warriors) and Keorapetse Molete, who has joined Maritzburg United where he will be reunited with former Ajax Cape Town head coach Roger de Sa.
The four to join our ranks are Rheece Evans (on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns), the Zambian duo of Rodrick Kabwe and Aubrey Funga (both signed from the title-winning Zanaco side in Zambia) and the returning winger Sameehg Doutie, who won the Indian Super League (ISL) with Atlético de Kolkata last year.
Ajax Cape Town have also confirmed this week that they have signed Platinum Stars defender Isaac Nhlapo on a pre-contract.
The 26-year-old will remain with Dikwena and see out the rest of his contract with the Rustenburg club before joining the Urban Warriors ahead of next season.
An update on squad numbers have also been confirmed by the Ajax Cape Town technical team, with the four new signings to don the following numbers on the back of their jerseys:
Rheece Evans (34)
Rodrick Kabwe (35)
Aubrey Funga (36)
Sameehg Doutie (37)
